Hello, I'm Jillene

I paint loose, atmospheric watercolor landscapes: open fields, low skies, quiet water, and the kind of places you’d like to wander into. I’m less interested in painting exactly what a place looks like than in how it feels to stand there. The fog rolling in, the last warm light, the hush after snow.

I live in Houston, but my imagination tends to wander somewhere a little quieter. Nature has always been a source of joy for me, and painting gives me a reason to pay closer attention—to the colors in a shadow or the way a distant treeline disappears into the sky.

Like a typical Aquarius, I’m happiest when I have a creative outlet and something new to try. I picked up watercolors while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. During a time when so much felt beyond my control, I found something surprisingly freeing in a medium that wouldn’t let me control it either.

Painting became a way to slow down, stay curious, and let things take their course.

That’s still what I love about watercolor. I can choose the colors and make the first marks, but then I have to trust where the water takes them. Sometimes the most beautiful part is something I never intended.

My palette draws heavily on nature: indigo, ultramarine, sap green, olive, yellow ochre, and burnt sienna. I let the pigments mingle on wet paper, leaving room for loose edges, soft blooms, and the occasional unexpected turn. I’m learning when to put the brush down.

This shop is where those paintings become things you can live with, starting with my 2027 Desk Calendar. Notecards, full-size prints, and original paintings will follow. I hope they bring a little of that feeling indoors—a moment to pause, look closely, and enjoy where you are.

Thank you for being here.
